In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month we are releasing our Save Second Base bracelets, but this year we have a special dedication and donation to Dianne Holgate and the Holgate family.
Dianne Holgate or ‘Dee’ has had quite the battle with cancer. She has already battled 3 different types of cancer; melanoma, ovarian, and endometrial cancers, and beaten them all! On top of all that she caught pneumonia that went septic which led her kidneys to shut down and led to the amputation of both her legs below the knee.
In the spring of 2015 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was Dianne’s 4th type of cancer; she went to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah where they were able to diagnose her with a genetic disorder known as Lynch Syndrome. Lynch Syndrome is an inherited disorder where you are more prone to colon cancer and other cancers.
Dianne had a double mastectomy in June and has had 4 rounds of chemotherapy. The doctors then found 3 nodes on her kidneys which were diagnosed as Liposarcoma, which is a rare cancer of connective tissue that resemble fat cells. Dianne is such an amazingly strong, fun loving lady! She is a wonderful mother and wife! She is loved by her entire community where she serves in her local church, works in retail and makes and decorates the most beautiful cakes! Through all these trials she has stayed happy and positive!
When we designed our Save Second Base bracelets, we did so with Dianne and all others who have fought or are currently fighting breast cancer in mind. Our ‘Fighter’ charm represents the determination and strength shown by these women day in and day out.
This year we plan to donate 50% of all profits from the sales of these bracelets. 25% will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the other 25% will be donated to the Holgate family to help cover a portion of Dianne’s medical bills as she continues to fight breast cancer. Let’s all fight breast cancer together and Save Second Base!
